GR & Wet Crew - Ski Coxwain - Marine Consultant

I am an environmental scientist and oceanographer specialising in coastal processes, surfing resource management, modelling of waves and currents, and the collection of environmental data. I run a small consulting company from Whale Bay and travel overseas a lot for work. My job puts me in, on or underwater a lot of the time. I find the areas I have been trained in for work transfer well to our coastguard activities, particularly working on New Zealand's exposed west coast and operations in and around the surf zone - which is where, along with a lot of our RVCG team, I am most comfortable. I joined the unit in 2012 very shortly after moving from the UK to NZ with my wife. Since then we have expanded our family by 3 kids and a dog. The kids take my role at coastguard very seriously, the result is that they think that we should help everyone everywhere we go - which is a bloody good outlook.
